Tout le monde is aware of the NYT blockbuster (JMM christened it, so it must be so) which says Donald Jr. met with Soviet agents in hopes of getting dirt on Hillary Clinton for the campaign.
Was that wrong? Yes, apparently it was:
“The Bush administration never would have tolerated this,” [Richard Painter, former ethics lawyer to George W. Bush] said. “And if this story is true, we’d have one of them or both of them in custody by now and we’d be asking them a lot of questions. This is unacceptable. This borders on treason if it’s not treason itself.”No, that's not the fun part. The fun part is how quickly Trump is throwing his namesake under the bus:
President Donald Trump was “not aware of and did not attend” a 2016 meeting between his son, Donald Trump Jr., and a Kremlin-connected lawyer that the New York Times reported on Sunday followed promises of damaging information on Hillary Clinton, Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump’s legal team, said.
That's the legal defense known as: "Take him! Not me! Him! Take him! He's the one you want!!"
You know, there's a passage in the gospels where Jesus asks "Who among you would give your child a snake if they asked for a fish?" I think we've found the parent who would do that.
