We sometimes say "Thank God for Mississippi!" here in South Carolina too, and I express the same sentiment about us sometimes as well. Well, our governor is opting us out of the federal unemployment assistance, so no saying it this time.
I don't think Texas has opted out, but I'm surprised by that.
There was actually an effort to expand Medicaid to take advantage of funding and due to changes made by the Biden Administration. It failed, but it seems it failed because there were too many "big" issues to tackle, and only six months to do it.
There was interest in the expansion, in other words. Just that coulda knocked me over with a feather.
