How To Make Friends And Influence People

“I have to say that it is unacceptable pressure being placed on Greenland and Denmark in this situation. And it is pressure that we will resist," Frederiksen said. "You cannot make a private visit with official representatives from another country."

Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Egede called the visit from the U.S. delegation "highly aggressive" and said that no members of Greenland's government would meet with them in an official capacity until the new government is formed following last week's elections, in which Egede's governing independence party lost to the main opposition Democrats Party, which generally favors continued union with Denmark.

The election results mean the new government will likely lean heavily into continued Danish authority, rather than negotiate with the U.S. for a deal over independence, as Trump has suggested. Greenland has been an autonomous territory of Denmark since 1953, and within the realm of the Danish monarchy since the 14th century.

Frederiksen said the current Greenland government has made it clear they do not want to meet with U.S. officials. "When you make a visit in this way, and the Greenlandic politicians clearly say that they do not want the visit, you cannot interpret it as respectful," Frederiksen said.

"It is clearly not a visit that is about what Greenland needs, or what Greenland wants."

Donald Trump reiterated in a cabinet meeting on Monday that the U.S. will acquire Greenland, but said the Vance visit was about "friendliness, not provocation."
Trump’s political genius continues unabated. 🙄
