Things That Didn’t Age Well

Manchild threw a hissy fit and must be appeased.
House Democrats said in a statement that the oil painting would be taken down at the request of Republican leaders in the Legislature. Colorado Republicans raised more than $10,000 through a GoFundMe account to commission the oil painting, which was unveiled in 2019.

Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen, a Republican, said that he requested for Trump’s portrait to be taken down and replaced by one “that depicts his contemporary likeness.”

“If the GOP wants to spend time and money on which portrait of Trump hangs in the Capitol, then that’s up to them,” the Democrats said.
There's more than a touch of Oscar Wilde to this story now. Meanwhile, back in the soon-to-be “District of America”: I’m just surprised he didn’t add “AND COUNTED BY MIDNIGHT!  EST!!”

Yeah, that won’t survive its first encounter with reality.  Trump wants to suspend money from states who don’t change their laws to meet his demands. Congress can condition funding on compliance (like the double-nickel speed limit back in the day. Speed laws, even on federal roads, is a matter of state regulation.). The Congress can do that under Article I, with limitations. Art. II does not give the President similar authority.

And the double-nickel was never real fuckin’ popular…

Wonder what Roberts thinks of South Dakota v. Dole.
Law nerd hat on:* Dole concentrates on Congressional authority to regulate the states. The entire decision revolves on that issue.

President’s have no such authority.

Besides, the opinion is by Rehnquist and joined by Scalia. 🤠

*meaning no offense/high handedness
