And as for his motive to keep things, well,  he probably considers it all his in the first place:

But according to two sources with knowledge of the matter, in the time since President Joe Biden was sworn in, Trump has not been shy about flaunting trophies from his years in the Oval Office. Within the past year and a half, Trump’s guests at Mar-a-Lago have at times witnessed the ex-president brandishing certain objects or papers, claiming they were mementos from his stint in the White House as he gave informal tours of his Florida homestead.

I don’t see him going to jail for this, but Jeebus! What an infant!

The thing I've wondered throughout the months that Trump's been holding boxes and boxes of classified stuff: Why would the dumbest POTUS ever, a man who didn't read anything - not even the PDB - feel the need to walk off with that much classified info?

Nichols thinks Trump is hiding something he hoped to find and destroy later. In 25 boxes? Why not just toss ‘em all in the shredder? Why hold them any longer than it took to destroy them?

Because Trump is not Nixon.

Also: I meant it about his paranoia:

Maggie has a point. “Informant” doesn’t have to mean someone snuck out back with a burner phone under cover of darkness and reported “Celery stalks at midnight!” Given the state of things, the FBI could simply have been interviewing people.

It’s more mundane, but it’s more realistic.
