I'm genuinely not convinced ANY reporting on why Dem Senators won't filibuster CR is right. This, for example, is not a real debate:
There's a case to be made--one I've not seen compellingly debunked--that by making right wingers own any shut downs you consolidate against the right earlier.
I honestly don't know the answer.
I know a great proportion of the people screaming are pundits who are WILDLY ineffective.
Just saying there's no real debate anywhere.
19-20 months from now, Trump will have pushed the economy off a cliff and left the civil service a smouldering husk. If you're a Democratic elected and you think a government shutdown from a CR fight is gonna be the thing voters remember, you need your fucking head examined.Linkins goes on to contradict himself, saying Democrats (the terminally online ones, at least) will remember who voted for cloture on the filibuster over the CR, in…19 to 20 months. And, what, vote against their incumbents and give the Republican challengers a chance because that’s how you defeat Trump at the midterms?
Trump is going to shutdown the government with, or without, the votes of Democrats. And I don’t mean this CR, or the next one. I may remember how Fetterman or Schumer voted this time; but I can’t vote for or against either of them. Tip O’Neill was right: all politics is local.
Besides, Trump has already signaled he’s going to sequester funds from the CR. The real fight is there: congressional authority v. the unitary executive. Trump wants to shutdown the government. If you can’t stop him (and Democrats can’t), make him own it.
Because the GOP town halls are not having it.
Acyn has several videos from that town hall. It doesn’t get any better for Edwards.A town hall erupts in boos and yelling as Rep. Edwards says he voted for the House Republican budget framework.

Edwards: And you wonder why folks don’t want to do these town halls. pic.twitter.com/v3e0LXWT9r
But yeah, let’s worry about who votes for the CR this time.
I’ll retire to Bedlam….
