New York Times:
Israel ordered the evacuation of more than a million civilians from the entire northern half of Gaza. The UN said the order would lead to “devastating humanitarian consequences,” and Gazan officials told Palestinians not to comply.
Times of Israel:Sisi: Palestinians in Gaza "must stay steadfast and remain on their land." Absolutely zero desire in Egypt to take in a wave of refugees from Gaza.
And how does this work,
exactly?
Wouldn't demanding that 1.1M in Gaza relocate on a day's notice make it FAR, FAR more likely that Hamas will escape in the chaos that ensues, only to have the most vulnerable civilians left to the face the wrath of the IDF?
And yes, they did
mean “one day:”IDF spokesman rear admiral Daniel Hagari said in a briefing with reporters that the IDF understands the evacuation of civilians from the northern Gaza strip might take a few days
That was meant to be the "
reasonable” follow-up:The Israeli Ministry of Defense and the IDF notified the UN just before midnight local time that Palestinians living north of Wadi Gaza should evacuate to the southern part of the Gaza Strip in the next 24 hours, according to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric and another source with direct knowledge.
Still sounds like the “let’s put 10 pounds of shit in a five pound sack” solution. And the point is, anyone who hasn’t left after 24 hours is not a “civilian,” so don’t blame IDF for killing them? Really?
