I stand upon the possibility of correction, but Republicans not participating in the impeachment trial is not a way of thwarting it. The vote is based on Senators present, not on Senators available.

What’s really interesting is Hewitt’s argument. Why do GOP Senators need to boycott rather than vote against impeachment? Or why don’t they show up and make their arcane legal arguments on the Senate floor? They might try this as a way out of voting for Trump (deadly) or to avoid voting against him (wimpy), but if the Dems point out how many post-Presidential bennies Trump skulks away with, the task of avoiding voting for or against Trump could get a lot harder.

And with 9 impeachment managers for the House, the odds the Democrats raise that issue are very good.

(I’ll take this as confirmation of my first point:)

  1. I'm in favor of Republicans not showing up, long as there's a quorum so they can conduct business I'd rather they all stay away. Rick Scott is as stupid as Paul LaPage is, only he was put there by a majority vote in his state, LePage never got more than 38% here.
