Pro-life state legislators also need to be guided by elementary principle that they should advocate measures that will win popular support. That means rape exceptions where early bans are possible. Don’t let supposed purism lead to crushing defeat. 2/

Exceptions for rape is not the issue in Kansas (and elsewhere). This is a healthcare issue, and “life of the mother” is not the loophole “pro-life” advocates think it is.Both sides on abortion have absolutists who appear to have stranglehold on policy. Whichever side escapes that stranglehold first will have huge advantage. If pro-lifers don't escape soon (e.g., rape exceptions), we'll get crushed. 4/

Much too sensible. Most European countries have realistic compassionate abortion laws that are acceptable to a vast majority of their citizens, along with healthcare systems that serve all their peoples. Propose the laws and funding. Solve problems.
