My favorite part of this is the reference to Walter Cronkite, who retired from CBS News in 1981. He anchored CBS News in the days when only white men were news anchors or, indeed, seen on camera. Huntley-Brinkley on NBC, Cronkite on CBS, and Howard K. Smith on ABC. Three broadcast networks were the only way to watch television or get TV news. I’m not sure there were even women on the Today Show until Barbara Walters came along. He hates the fact that women are journalists. That was also part of the issue yesterday, not just race. pic.twitter.com/5GFyCl4sU2

Anyway…
Trump’s frame of reference is so out of date only Boomers like me know firsthand what he’s talking about. And honestly: a callback to the days when white men were the standard of reference? Pretty obvious; and wildly anachronistic.
Gee, Nancy Dickerson would have been a more up-to-date figure to have hearkened back to but she was too much of a journalist for Trump, I'd expect.
