For those of you new to this media environment. The main sources of info are an army that lies about everything; a warlord who owns an infamous troll factory and lied about it for years; and the Kremlin. And Russia destroyed the media, so there aren't any good independent sources

The absence in public of Putin so far in this crisis is striking.

As I said, there is no Russian state, no political chain of command, and total failure in Ukraine has exposed that. Who will obey whose orders now? If Prigozhin is still alive and free in 24 hours, we will have entered a new reality.

Fun wrinkle to all of this is that there are (reportedly) Akhmat troops stationed south of Rostov. They will definitely not let Wagner fighters walk by untouched, as Rosgvardia has.

The question of why Prigozhin head to Rostov rather than Moscow is answered by the storming of the SMD HQ. It it the most strategic target in the South of Russia if you’re targeting the Ministry of Defense. Now that Prigozhin has the HQ does he consolidate or move on.

It worked against Napoleon and Hitler. But both times, that was in winter.Just stunning. These appear to be very small contingents of troops walking into a major Russian city and occupying key military installations basically without any significant opposition. https://t.co/pjuQAJYdL1

π¨FSB offices are being evacuated in Voronezh and Lipetsk regions. They are on Prigozhin's path to Moscow from Rostov. pic.twitter.com/ubtSSlTG67

Russia: "The governors of Voronezh and Lipetsk regions are panicking. Lipetsk governor Artamonov is drunk. Almost no one in Moscow answers, they don't know what to do."
— Igor Sushko (@igorsushko) June 24, 2023
And less than 700 miles to Moscow.Rostov houses the command of the Southern Military District and the Operational Headquarters for the war in Ukraine. It’s also one of Russia most important logistical hubs for the war. Wagner could get it hands on enormous stockpiles.
— Alexander S. Vindman ❎ (@AVindman) June 24, 2023
π¨ Russia: "Multiple Defense Ministry units involved in the war are moving under Prigozhin's command. Entire corps. Shoigu and Gerasimov's commanders are being removed."
— Igor Sushko (@igorsushko) June 24, 2023
I'm wondering if Putin would be willing to extradite Prigozhin for his 2016 election tampering.

It’s hard for me to imagine Russian forces in Ukraine staying and fighting while there is an insurrection at home. If this persists / gathers momentum, I can see a rapid collapse of Russian forces in Ukraine.
