Except the roots of the GOP that created Trump reach back to Nixon. Best I can tell from Lawrence's on-line data (she started covering politics as a reporter in 1988), she doesn't really remember Nixon. Like, say, his contacts with North Korea when he was still a private citizen, getting them to stall the peace talks until he could win the Presidency with his "secret plan to end the war."My new column: The Trump GOP is in ruins and every Jan. 6 committee hearing digs the hole deeper. It's making me nostalgic for, gulp, the Nixon era. https://t.co/muGIiB73k9 via @usatoday @usatodayopinion

A war that didn't end until 1975. Seven years later, for those of you unclear about the chronology.
Nostalgia is not the revelation it's cracked up to be.
