No Matter How Much Everyone Claims It

I post that not because I think polls are the true voice of the vox populi, but because too much coverage of Trump’s legal problems are couched in terms of political support.

Politicians reflect the views of the people they think elected them. And they really don’t change their views much even when those people (imagined or real) do. Which is why, on an almost cyclical basis, incumbents get kicked out of office and don’t know what truck just hit ‘em.

And, of course, whoever is running and has good poll numbers is going to be elected, or probably will be elected, or might be elected, or who knows, could be elected, so they must be taken seriously and any presumption must be slanted in their favor. Right?

Trump is not going to elected. Don’t want to rely on my analysis? Then I give you that poll above.

Trump claims he raised money on the new indictment. Trump also claimed he finished the border wall, and spent money as POTUS that he didn’t spend (? I’ve already forgotten that lie), and of course claims Biden violated national security law by giving his Senatorial records (not classified documents) to a university. Even Elmo, Sooper-genius, bought that one:
Trump lies. Nothing he says can be regarded as true. He claims he can’t be prosecuted because he’s a presidential candidate; or is it because he’s ahead in the polls? Does it matter? He lies. Every word is a lie.

And most people trust the legal system to do the right thing. I don’t trust it when it comes to prosecuting non-whites, or the poor. But when it goes after rich white men I’m pretty comfortable with their work.

Funny nobody’s making a “similarly situated” argument on that point.

Lindsay Graham is playing to the peanut gallery. The saddest part of his performance was trying to be butch by accusing CBS of bias:
Well, yeah, I'm trying to answer the question from a Republican point of view," Graham griped. "That may not be acceptable on this show."
Really? That’s the best you got? And what is the Republican point of view on the law? That it should only apply to Democrats, no matter what they do? And never apply to Republicans, no matter what they do?

Don’t be a little bitch, Lindsay. You’re a lawyer. You know better.

This is all performative bullshit. And it’s pretty clear a majority of Americans see it that way.

And that that majority of Americans is not on Twitter. No matter how hard it tries, the tail just can’t wag the dog.
