Many Presidential Candidates don't say....

Maybe I should start a commonplace book:  "The Sayings of Chairman Trump."

“I’ve always had a great temperament. And you know, I win. I have a winning temperament. We’re going to win, we’re going to start winning again. But I’ve won. My whole life has been about winning. I win. She can’t win. She’s not a winner. She can’t win.”
Any further comment seems wholly unnecessary.

And we could add this:

“If she gets to pick her judges ― nothing you can do, folks,” Trump said with a shrug at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina. “Although, the Second Amendment, people. Maybe there is. I don’t know.”

Pretty clear he means the "Second Amendment" would offer a "remedy" to the judges Pres. Clinton would put on the bench.  But if you're the guy following the elephants in the parade with the shovel and garbage can, you gotta make 'em smell like roses:

“It’s called the power of unification ― Second Amendment people have amazing spirit and are tremendously unified, which gives them great political power,” [Jason] Miller said in a statement. “And this year, they will be voting in record numbers, and it won’t be for Hillary Clinton, it will be for Donald Trump.”

And if they don't, well:  there's always the Second Amendment.

Charlie Pierce, meanwhile, makes me wish I'd kept my copy of Fear and Loathing:  On the Campaign Trail '72.  Ah, for the days of gonzo journalism again.  Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear?

And, to answer Charlie's question with another report on that campaign 44 years ago (where does the time go?):  No, this isn't the line, because there is no line (I mean, he clearly didn't mean what he clearly said).  As Kurt Vonnegut said, watching the GOP convention in '72:  "The winners are at war with the losers, and the fix is in.  The prospects for peace are awful."

  1. Vers libre, occasionally rhymed, topped with a truncated haiku:

    I’ve always had
    a great temperament.
    And you know,
    I win.

    I have a winning
    temperament.
    We’re going
    to win,

    we’re going to start
    winning again.
    But
    I’ve won.

    My whole life
    has been
    about winning.
    I win.

    She can’t win.
    She’s not a winner.
    She can’t win.

I had the biggest biceps in Spoon River.
