Bob Woodward had my quotes for many months. If he thought they were so bad or dangerous, why didn’t he immediately report them in an effort to save lives? Didn’t he have an obligation to do so? No, because he knew they were good and proper answers. Calm, no panic!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 10, 2020
....is in indirect response to this:
Bob Woodward knew the truth behind the administration*’s deadly bungling—and worse—and he saved it for his book, which will be released to wild acclaim and huge profits after nearly 200,000 Americans have died. https://t.co/GTmj40AJaT— Charles P. Pierce (@CharlesPPierce) September 9, 2020
Which Trump probably picked up from this:
On Twitter and elsewhere online, commentators accused Woodward of valuing book sales over public health. “Nearly 200,000 Americans have died because neither Donald Trump nor Bob Woodward wanted to risk anything substantial to keep the country informed,” wrote Esquire’s Charles P. Pierce.
Charlie is vast, he contains thousands.
Very Trumpian (indeed, very Rovian) to now use that line against Woodward to defend Trump's statements to Woodward. It reminds me of a 5th grader telling his parents the teacher didn't yell at him for flunking the class, so why are they yelling? He got pretty much the response that hypothetical kid would when he had to try it out in front of a live audience:
After @realDonaldTrump repeats the ridiculous claim that @realBobWoodward should've broken his agreement with the White House and warned "the authorities" about COVID, @PhilipRucker has to remind him that Woodward is not the President of the United States.— Andrew Feinberg (@AndrewFeinberg) September 10, 2020
Toddler with a shotgun. God help us all.
