My Little Pope Coupe

You don't know what I got.

I may not be around for awhile:

A progressive theological current that emphasizes the Catholic Church’s closeness to the poor and the marginalized but was subject to decades of hostility and censure is now finding increasing favor in the Vatican under Pope Francis.

Francis, who has called for “a poor church for the poor,” will meet in the next few days with the Rev. Gustavo Gutierrez, a Peruvian theologian and scholar who is considered the founder of liberation theology.

Gonna be dusting off my volumes of Gutierrez and Sorbino and my copy of Mysterium Liberationis and returning to what I really shouldn't have left off studying.  Feeling all optimistic and inspired for some reason.

The pope drives stick!
Yeah, that's probably it.  Definitely a man after my own heart.

  1. It is enormously significant that he's metting with Gutierrez and Sorbino. You can contrast how JPII treated St. Oscar Romero, refusing to meet with him as Romero was begging for him to help stop the military from killing people - shortly before it killed St. Oscar. And also how he publicly dressed down Ernesto Cardenal.

I'm tempted to go back over the atheists' bashing him the first few weeks after his election.
